Tonya Brent has taken legal action following a tragic incident that claimed the life of her husband, Miguel Cuevas. On April 3, 2025, Tonya Brent filed a complaint in the District Court of Harris County against Starcon International Inc., Sathi LLC, and Flintco LLC. The lawsuit stems from an accident on April 1, 2025, where Cuevas was killed while working at a construction site managed by these companies.

The complaint alleges that Miguel Cuevas was working in an aerial lift near metal trusses when one collapsed and fatally injured him. According to the petition filed by Brent, the defendants failed to ensure a safe working environment, which directly led to Cuevas's death. "Defendants had ownership and/or control over the premises...and thus had a duty to exercise the degree of care that a company of ordinary prudence would use," states the complaint. The lawsuit accuses the defendants of negligence for failing to supervise employees properly, conduct safety meetings, complete required safety documents, and provide adequate training and equipment.

Brent is seeking damages under Texas's Wrongful Death Act for herself and her children R.N.C. and R.M.C., who are also named as plaintiffs in the case. The lawsuit requests compensation for mental anguish, loss of companionship, exemplary damages, and other relief deemed appropriate by the court. Additionally, Brent has applied for a temporary restraining order to preserve evidence related to the incident until it can be inspected.

The legal team representing Tonya Brent includes attorneys Steve Kherkher, Jesus Garcia Jr., Mike Engelhart, Matt L. Martin, and Dakota Eddins from Kherkher Garcia LLP. The case is filed under Case ID 2025-23255 in Harris County's 270th Judicial District Court.
