Truck driver sues after rear-end collision with another 18-wheeler

A truck driver is suing trucking company after her 18-wheeler was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer that failed to slow for heavy traffic in a construction zone.

Mary Brewer filed suit against Daniel Reames, Landstar Ranger Inc. and ABC Insurance Co. on Feb. 22 in the Eastern District of Texas, Beaumont Division.

The incident occurred on April 13, 2011, while Brewer was working for Tango Transportation and driving her 18-wheeler on US Highway 82 in Grayson. According to the lawsuit, Brewer slowed down due to heavy traffic in a construction zone and she was struck from behind by an 18-wheeler, operated by the defendant.

The defendants are accused of negligence for failing to avoid a collision, operating a motor vehicle in a careless, reckless and inattentive manner, failing to see what he should have seen, and for failing to yield.

Brewer is seeking an award of damages for physical pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of income, medical expenses, interest and court costs.

She is represented by Christopher R. Schwartz and J. Jacob Goehring in Metairie, La.

A jury trial is requested.

U.S. District Judge Ron Clark is assigned to the case.
