The children of the late Barney Tarver have filed suit against Chevron USA and Union Oil of California, alleging the companies negligently exposed their father to asbestos throughout his career.
Representing his estate, William Tarver filed the suit March 6 in Jefferson County District Court.
According to the lawsuit, Barney Tarver was employed at the Gulf Oil Refinery in Jefferson County, where he was exposed to asbestos dust and fibers. No dates of employment are given.
As a result of his asbestos exposure, Tarver developed mesothelioma and died on Jan. 27, the suit alleges.
The suit accuses the defendants of negligently failing to warn workers of the dangers of asbestos.
The plaintiffs are suing for exemplary damages.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, is assigned to the case.
