Two years ago, a Harris County family was in an automobile collision with a Port Arthur woman on a stretch of Interstate 10 passing through Houston.
On March 12 Jorge Salgado, Lisbeth Arevalo and minor Abrienne Salgado filed suit against Leah Shoemaker in Jefferson County District Court.
The suit states jurisdiction is proper in Jefferson County because Shoemaker is an area resident.
According to the suit, on March 9, 2010, Shoemaker rear-ended the plaintiffs on I-10 in Harris County when they stopped for traffic.
Shoemaker is blamed for negligently failing to keep a safe distance between vehicles, maintain a proper lookout and apply her brakes in a timely manner.
The plaintiffs are seeking damages for their mental anguish, medical expenses and lost wages.
Houston attorney Michelle Blum represents them.
Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, is assigned to the case.
