Lane change collision results in suit

A lane change collision has two Beaumont residents in litigation.

Michael Harris filed suit against Philmond King on April 5 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on Jan. 27, 2011, Harris was traveling west on Liberty Avenue in the left lane when King, who was traveling in the right lane, attempted to change lanes and caused both vehicles to collide.

In addition to changing lanes when it was unsafe to do so, the suit accuses defendant driver of negligently failing to keep a proper lookout.

The plaintiff is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Attorney Tom Oxford of the Beaumont law firm Waldman Smallwood represents him.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, is assigned to the case.
