Rear-end crash on FM 517 leads to lawsuit

Hunt

GALVESTON - Floyd Milton Fowler Jr. claims Rachel Williams Grimmett rear-ended him last year in League City, recent court documents say.

A lawsuit filed June 14 in Galveston County District Court shows the two-vehicle accident in question occurred along a stretch of FM 517 on Oct. 11, 2011.

Fowler says he was stopped at a traffic light in the westbound lane when Grimmett struck the back of his vehicle.

According to the plaintiff, the respondent traveled "at a high rate of speed, failed to maintain a proper lookout, failed to control her speed, failed to take evasive action, failed to apply her brakes and struck (his) vehicle..... at a high rate of speed."

The suit says Fowler suffered "severe" injuries to his neck and back, including but not limited to cervical disc herniations and back sprains.

"These injuries required extensive medical treatment in the past and will require extensive future treatment, including but not limited to surgical intervention," it says.

Fowler states he incurred at least $25,000 in lost wages and approximately $7,000 in medical expenses, ultimately seeking $500,000 in damages.

A jury trial is also requested.

Attorney Thomas L. Hunt with Thomas L. Hunt & Associates in Houston is representing the plaintiff, and Galveston County 10th District Court Judge David Garner is presiding over the case.
