GALVESTON - Claiming she was a victim of a dog attack last year, local resident Joan E. Jarvis has filed a lawsuit.
According to court papers filed July 3 in Galveston County District Court, a canine belonging to League City local Michael D. Parkan assaulted Jarvis on April 9, 2011, as she spoke to a neighbor outside her home.
Jarvis says Parkan was walking the dog when it suddenly lunged toward her, bit her right hand and drug her to the ground.
"The dog would not let go," the original petition states.
"The defendant repeatedly struck the dog until the dog finally released (the plaintiff)."
The suit alleges the canine "has had numerous problems in the neighborhood and is known to be vicious," recalling an instance in which it attacked another dog.
"The defendant had a duty to prevent his dangerous dog from making an attack, with or without alleged provocation, outside the dogs' enclosure and causing bodily injury," it states.

Consequently, Jarvis seeks unspecified monetary damages.
Attorney Timothy R. Hightower with Hightower, Russo & Capellan in Houston is representing the plaintiff, and Galveston County 10th District Court Judge David Garner is presiding over the case.
