SHERMAN - The credit reporting service Experian is being sued by a Carrollton man for more than $1 million for inaccuracies in his credit report.
John E. Shaunfield filed suit against Experian Information Solutions on July 2 in Denton County District Court. The defendant removed the case to the Eastern District of Texas, Sherman Division on Aug. 2.
Shaunfield states that his credit report contained inaccuracies that included an incorrect birth date and no credit history.
He claims he sent correspondence to Experian in July 2011 regarding necessary changes to the credit report and Experian complied with his requests. However, Shaunfield states that by April 2012 Experian had deleted all the corrected information.
The defendant is accused of defamation of character and for failure to comply with appropriate federal and state statutes, including the Texas Business and Commerce Code and the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Shaunfield is acting as his own attorney and is asking for more than $1 million in damages, attorney's fees, interest and court costs.
