Beaumont man sues driver who caused wreck fleeing from police

A Beaumont man has filed suit against the driver who he claims struck his vehicle while fleeing from police.

Javier Sosa claims he was driving north on U.S. 69 feeder road on May 13 when defendant Jarvis Kendall Kyle, who was allegedly intoxicated and fleeing from police, lost control of his vehicle and struck Sosa's. At the time of the collision, Kyle was driving a vehicle belonging to defendant Jameka Desha Lofton, according to the complaint filed July 27 in Jefferson County District Court.

Because of the collision, Sosa suffered neck and back injuries, suffered severe pain and discomfort and incurred medical costs, the suit states.

Kyle negligently failed to control his speed, failed to drive within a single lane, failed to timely apply his brakes, failed to keep a proper lookout and drove while intoxicated, the complaint says.

In his complaint, Sosa is seeking a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and other relief the court deems just.

Clay Dugas and Reginald Blakeley of Beaumont will be representing him.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
