Woman claims back injury from crash

A woman claims she sustained neck and back injuries after a driver rear-ended her vehicle.

Krystyn Vaughan filed a lawsuit July 26 in Jefferson County District Court against Rashanda Martile Mayon.

In her complaint, Vaughan alleges she drove south on Cardinal Drive on Sept. 9 and had stopped for traffic when Mayon, who was driving behind her, failed to control her speed and struck the back of Vaughan's vehicle.

Because of the collision, Vaughan experienced physical pain, suffering, mental anguish and physical impairment; lost her earning capacity; and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint.

Vaughan blames Mayon for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to timely apply her brakes, failed to maintain a proper lookout, failed to drive in a safe manner, failed to keep a safe distance, failed to take evasive action to avoid a collision and failed to control her speed.

Vaughan seeks an unspecified judgment, plus interest at the legal rate and other relief the court deems just.

Tom Oxford of Waldman Smallwood in Beaumont will be representing her.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
