HOUSTON - Houston resident Glen A. Noel asserts racism was a factor behind his termination from two area companies, recent court documents say.
A lawsuit filed July 23 in Houston federal court alleges BAE Systems Inc. and National Employment Service Corp. did nothing to address the alleged race-based harassment Noel faced prior to dismissing him.
Noel, an African-American, applied for job placement with National Employment, which assigned him to work with BAE Systems as an assembly mechanic I in February 2009.
Shortly after Noel's hiring, a Caucasian co-worker occasionally referred to him by a racial epithet, the suit says.
The plaintiff further explains that the mistreatment continued despite his pleas for them to stop, stating he once entered the men's restroom at his workplace to find the word "N*****" prominently displayed on the wall.
He adds "his car was vandalized with scratches, trash and saliva."
Efforts to have the defendants remedy the situation in question were unsuccessful as Noel requested to be reassigned only to be terminated shortly afterwards in May 2009, the original petition states.
According to Noel, he "has suffered, suffers, and will continue to suffer humiliation, mental anxiety and stress, and other damages" because of his former employers' "unlawful" conduct.
Consequently, he seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.
