A Hardin County woman has filed a lawsuit against Wal-Mart that claims the store's negligence caused her to slip in water leaking for an air conditioning unit.

Rhonda Laughlin filed suit against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. on July 6 in Hardin County District Court. The defendant removed the case to Beaumont Division of the Eastern District of Texas on Aug. 9.

The suit states incident occurred on Aug. 4 as Laughlin was shopping at the Wal-Mart located in Lumberton. She claims she slipped in a puddle on the floor and fell. According to the lawsuit, the liquid on the floor was dripping from the store's air conditioner unit.

Wal-Mart is accused of negligence for failing to keep the premises in a reasonably safe condition, failing to inspect the premises to discover latent defects and for failing to give adequate warning of any dangers.

The plaintiff is asking the court for an award of damages for medical expenses, loss of earnings and earning capacity, physical impairment, physical pain, mental anguish, interest and court costs.

Laughlin is represented by Beaumont attorneys Jonathan C. Juhan and J. J. Bragg.
