Man's mesothelioma due to asbestos exposure, petition to take deposition alleges

Port Arthur resident Joseph Angelle has filed a petition to take deposition before suit, asserting that his mesothelioma was caused by asbestos exposure.

The petition was filed Aug. 17 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the petition, Angelle seeks to obtain his own deposition testimony concerning his employment history as a laborer and machinist at Gulf Oil in Port Arthur.

Angelle claims in his petition that his employment at the facility required him to work hands-on with asbestos-containing products.

"These exposures were the cause of petitioner's malignant mesothelioma," the petition states. "Petitioner asks the court to issue an order authorizing him to obtain his own testimony by oral and video deposition."

Gulf Oil may have an interest adverse to Angelle's in the anticipated suit, the petition states.

Beaumont attorney Colin Moore of the Provost Umphrey Law Firm represents him.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, is assigned to the case.
