HOUSTON - Brookshire resident Jennifer Nelson claims Luby's Corp. fired her because she refused to give in to a general manager's sexual advances.
Recent court documents filed Aug. 17 in the Southern District of Texas, Houston Division allege the manager subjected Nelson to "an unwelcome sexual hostile work environment."
Nelson was hired by Luby's in July 2008, starting as a front of the house supervisor before ascending to a management position despite her young age.
According to the suit, the manager, who is not a defendant in the case, made inappropriate comments, including asking the plaintiff about the color of her underwear.
The plaintiff states the manager propositioned her by offering to buy her a car and pay for her apartment because "she drove him crazy" as well as told her "that he wanted to be the next guy she had sexual intercourse with."
Nelson rejected the manager's advances, which caused him to retaliate, the original petition says.
The manager allegedly told another associate manager that he planned on reducing Nelson's hours until she quit or was fired.
Nelson states she was suspended for an unspecified offense and eventually fired.
Luby's apparent failure to protect Nelson for harassment caused her to suffer severe emotional distress, the suit says.
A jury trial is requested.
Nelson is representing herself.
