Before a jury could be selected, an automobile collision suit filed late last year settled on Tuesday.
As previously reported, Huey Walter Sr. filed a lawsuit Dec. 12 in Jefferson County District Court against Mary Andrea Young.
The case was slated to go to trial on Tuesday, Sept. 4 in Judge Gary Sanderson’s 60th District Court.
However, a court official told the Southeast Texas Record that the case settled beforehand. Terms of the settlement are confidential.
Walter alleged in his suit that Young struck him after she failed to stop for halted traffic on July 30, 2010.
Court records show that Young answered the suit on Feb. 3, asserting a general denial.
Walter was seeking damages for his medical expenses, physical pain, suffering, mental anguish, physical impairment and disfigurement and lost wages.
He blamed Young for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to maintain a proper lookout, failed to timely apply her brakes, failed to yield, failed to keep a proper distance between her vehicle and Walter’s and failed to turn to avoid a collision.
John S. Morgan of Harris, Duesler and Hatfield in Beaumont represents him.
Marshall attorney T. Belew Ellis represents Young.
