While sweeping dust off a tank, Sean Riley slipped and fell.

On Aug. 30 Riley filed suit against Doguet’s Rice Milling in Jefferson County District Court, alleging he was not properly supervised.

According to the lawsuit, on March 7, 2011, Riley, a Trendsetter HR employee, was working at Doguet’s Rice Milling when one of the company’s employees instructed him to sweep dust off tanks.

The employee was not on site to supervise the work when Riley fell approximately 6 feet, severely and permanently injuring his head, back, left knee and right wrist, hand and elbow, the suit alleges.

The suit accuses Doguet’s Rice Milling of negligently failing to instruct Riley on the safest way to perform the task and provide him with the proper safety equipment.

The plaintiff is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Port Arthur attorney Brandon Monk represents him.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 6oth District Court, is assigned to the case.
