A $10,000 settlement was recently reached in a suit against a local daycare.
As previously reported, Meltasha Moore, on behalf of her minor child, filed suit against Carolyn Quibideaux, owner of Kids Safari, on May 24, 2011, in Jefferson County District Court, alleging the daycare left her child unattended in a van.
Court records show that a final judgment approving the settlement was entered on July 11, stating that $6,016.27 be paid into the court registry for the minor and $3,983.73 be paid to the Gertz Adair Law Firm in Beaumont.
The original petition alleged that on Aug. 31, 2010, a daycare employee left the minor unattended in a van without air conditioning for a half hour.
In her suit, Moore alleged that once the minor found her way out the van and back into the defendant’s facility, “defendant’s staff systematically attempted to cover up the incident in a effort to avoid potential consequences.”
She also contended that her daughter suffered from nightmares where she’s locked in a confined space.
Attorney Ryan Gertz represented the plaintiff.
Houston attorney Matt Childs represented the defendants.
