Woman sues driver who failed to stay in lane

Payne james

A Beaumont woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims failed to stay in a single lane and caused a collision.

Misty Ray claims she was driving south on Interstate 10 in Beaumont on March 9 when defendant Alexia Morgan suddenly made a lane change and struck Ray’s vehicle.

Because of the collision, Ray incurred medical costs and experienced extreme physical pain, suffering, mental anguish, disfigurement and physical impairment, according to the complaint filed Aug. 20 in Jefferson County District Court.

Morgan negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to timely apply her brakes and changed her lane when it was not safe to do so, the suit states.

In her complaint, Ray is seeking an unspecified judgment, plus interest at the legal rate and other relief the court deems just.

She will be represented by James E. Payne and Ronnie Turner Jr. of Provost Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, will be presiding over the case.

Case No. E192-918
