Two Beaumont residents allege they incurred medical costs after a driver failed to stop at a red light, causing a collision.
Judy K. Relford and Dale Gobert filed a lawsuit Aug. 22 in Jefferson County District Court against Khristy F. Wilson and Derrick A. Wilson.
In their complaint, the plaintiffs allege they were traveling at the intersection of the 1500 block of Interstate 10 and the 1400 block of Martin Luther King Parkway on Dec. 1, 2010, when Khristy Wilson, who was driving a vehicle owned by Derrick Wilson, suddenly failed to obey a red light and struck the vehicle in which the plaintiffs were riding.
Because of the collision, the plaintiffs incurred medical costs and experienced physical pain, suffering, mental anguish and physical impairment, according to the complaint.
They blame Khristy Wilson for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to exercise due care, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to obey a traffic control device, failed to timely apply her brakes and failed to keep her vehicle under proper control, among other negligent actions.
The plaintiffs seek an unspecified judgment, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and other relief the court deems just.
Jeffrey C. Chilton of Packard Lapray in Beaumont will be representing them.
Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
