Beaumont resident Christopher Otey is suing the county where he resides, alleging a road worker waved him through an intersection and indirectly caused a motor vehicle collision.

The suit was filed Oct. 9 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on June 27, 2011, Otey was traveling south on Cloverdale Road and was stopped because of Jefferson County employees doing road repair. A county employee flagged him to proceed. As he was proceeding to turn onto South Garden Road, he was struck by a van traveling north on Cloverdale.

“Due to defendant’s negligence and the server impact of the vehicle, serious personal injury resulted,” the suit states.

Both the van’s operator and road worker were in the course and scope of their employment with Jefferson County, the suit says.

The plaintiff is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain disfigurement and lost wages.

Beaumont attorney Ryan White of Loncar & Associates represents him.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 6oth District Court, is assigned to the case.
