A Bridge City man claims he and his minor sons sustained injuries after a driver backed out of a driveway and struck their vehicle.

Christopher Dollins Sr. filed a lawsuit Oct. 9 in Jefferson County District Court against Rodney Broussard.

Christopher Dollins Sr. and his minor sons were traveling east on Terrell Street in Groves on Oct. 18, 2010, when Broussard, who was backing out of a private drive, struck their vehicle, according to the complaint.

Because of the collision, Christopher Dollins Sr. and his sons incurred medical costs; experienced physical pain, suffering and mental anguish; lost wages; and lost their earning capacities, the suit states. They also suffered disfigurement, the complaint says.

Christopher Dollins Sr. blames Broussard for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to back up safely, failed to avoid the collision, failed to maintain his vehicle and failed to drive as a reasonable person would have.

In his complaint, Christopher Dollins Sr. is seeking a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest at the highest legal rate, actual damages and other relief the court deems just.

Ryan Douglas White of Loncar and Associates in Beaumont will be representing him.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
