Believing warning signs should have been placed around a water meter on city sidewalks, Rhonda Morgan is suing the city of Port Arthur for injuries when she tripped over the alleged hazard.
The suit was filed Oct. 22 in Jefferson County District Court.
According to the lawsuit, on March 30, 2011, Morgan, who is hearing impaired, was walking on a downtown city sidewalk when she tripped over a water meter.
“There were no signs warning of the existence of this unsafe elevation on the sidewalk,” the suit states.
The suit further alleges the city was negligent in placing a water meter on its sidewalk and failed to protect the safety of the public.
The plaintiff is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment and disfigurement.
She is represented by Dallas attorney Kimberly Stovall.
Judge Gary Sanderson, 6oth District Court, is assigned to the case.
