The Port of Port Arthur Navigation District of Jefferson County is suing Weeks Marine for property damage the company allegedly caused to its facility.

The suit was filed Nov. 2 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, Weeks was the owner of a vessel engaged in dredging operations near the Port’s facility.

Between Dec. 20, 2010, and Dec. 28, 2010, the vessel damaged several wooden cluster piles at the Port’s facility.

“Plaintiff alleges that the negligent conduct of the defendant was the proximate cause of property damage to plaintiff’s facilities,” the suit states. “Plaintiff further alleges that the damages to its property exceeded the minimum jurisdictional requirements of this court.”

The Port is also suing for court costs.

Beaumont attorney Tommy Yeates of Moore, Landrey represents the plaintiff.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, is assigned to the case.
