Woman sues driver claiming he led to multi-vehicle collision

A man claims he sustained serious injuries after a driver rear-ended his vehicle, then caused him to crash into the vehicle in front of him.

Ronald Coleman claims he was driving west in the 1500 block of State Highway 73 in Port Arthur on Aug. 26, 2011, when defendant Cody Carpenter, who was driving in the same direction, failed to control his speed and struck the back of Coleman’s vehicle. In turn, Coleman struck the vehicle in front of him, according to the complaint filed Nov. 13 in Jefferson County District Court.

Because of the collision, Coleman suffered severe physical pain, mental anguish and physical impairment; incurred medical costs; and lost the use of his vehicle, the suit states.

Carpenter negligently failed to maintain control of his vehicle, failed to reduce his speed, failed to exercise due care, failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to pay full attention, the complaint says.

In his complaint, Coleman is seeking a judgment for an amount in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Clint Brasher and Joe Muckleroy of Beaumont will be representing him.

The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court.
