Area resident John Sikes is suing Safety Star Industrial for injuries he allegedly received while repairing a forklift.

The suit was filed Dec. 4 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on July 19 Sikes was instructed to make repairs to a forklift at Safety Star Industrial’s jobsite. He claims that he asked to go back to the machine shop and use a lift there to make the repairs, but was denied.

While attempting to make repairs on site, Sikes’ arm and elbow were trapped when the boom lowered and fell. He claims it fell because it was not properly supported by an “A Frame” lift.

The suit accuses Safety Star Industrial of failing to maintain a safe working environment, failing to warn Sikes of the dangers of repairing the forklift onsite and not allowing him to make repairs with the proper support in place.

The plaintiff is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment and lost wages.

Beaumont attorney Clay Dugas represents him.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, is assigned to the case.
