A Nederland woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims failed to control her speed and struck the woman’s vehicle.
Laurie Ann Foreman claims she was taking the exit off of Highway 69 on Jan. 7, 2011, when defendant Lori Swan Sloan struck her car.
Because of the collision, Foreman suffered cervical neck, lumbar and thoracic back and left shoulder pain and experienced severe headaches, according to the complaint filed Dec. 28 in Jefferson County District Court. She also incurred medical costs of $15,234 and experienced physical pain, suffering and mental anguish, the suit states.
Foreman blames Lori Swan Sloan for causing her injuries, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to timely apply her brakes, failed to control her speed, failed to avoid the accident and failed to drive as a reasonable person would have done.
She also names Bryan Lane Sloan as a defendant, saying he negligently entrusted his vehicle to Lori Swan Sloan.
In her complaint, Foreman is seeking a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest at the legal rate, actual damages and other relief the court deems just.
Ryan Douglas White of Loncar and Associates in Beaumont will be representing her.
The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
