A man has filed a lawsuit alleging a retired judge and the current Jefferson County District Clerk have conspired to keep documents from him.
David Brown filed his suit against retired Criminal District Court Judge Charles Carver and District Clerk Lolita Ramos on Jan. 4 in Jefferson County District Court.
According to the lawsuit, on Aug. 13 Brown made a request for documents pertaining to his criminal conviction. He was mailed the indictment but was informed other requested documents were unavailable to him.
Brown believes the sought documents could prove his innocence and that the denial violates his constitutional rights.
Brown was found guilty of murder and the trial court records are needed for his appeal, the suit states.
In his suit, Brown alleges the defendants are conspiring to withhold evidence that could prove his innocence.
He is asking the court to order the defendants to release all records concerning his conviction.
Brown is representing himself.
Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, is assigned to the case.
