MARSHALL - A female Pilgrim’s Pride employee has filed a gender discrimination suit claiming that she was falsely terminated when a welding machine went missing but no male employees were terminated.

Amy Greer filed suit against Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. on Jan. 11 in the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division.

Greer was an employee of Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. from Jan. 6, 2006, until March 12, 2012. According to the lawsuit, on March 8, 2012, a welding machine was delivered that did not have a purchase order number that correlated with a number in Pilgrim’s system.

Greer states she locked the machine in her officer overnight so it would not be left out in the open, but the next day she was told to place the machine on the UPS pallet to go to the Pilgrim’s Parts Department.

According to the lawsuit, at some point the machine went missing and Pilgrim’s believed Greer stole it.

Greer states that several male employees who had possession of the welding machine during its transition to the Parts Department were neither accused of stealing the machine, nor were they terminated.

The defendant is accused of gender discrimination.

The plaintiff is seeking an award of damages for lost wages and benefits, interest, attorney’s fees, mental anguish, emotional distress, punitive damages and attorney’s fees.

Greer is represented by Scott C. Skelton and Erika L. Neill of Zeleskey Law Firm in Lufkin.

A jury trial is requested.
