Seaman Corey Phipps, who claims a load stuck him, has filed a Jones Act suit against his employer’s, Cal Dive International and Cal Dive Offshore Contractors.
The suit was filed Feb. 27 in Jefferson County District Court.
According to the lawsuit, on Aug. 31, 2012, Phipps was working aboard the Pacific Horizon, which was deployed in navigable waters in Port Arthur, when a load struck him, injuring his foot and leg.
The suit accuses the defendants of negligently failing to supervise and train the crew, provide safety equipment and maintain the vessel.
The plaintiff is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment and lost wages.
Attorney Jason Itkin of the Houston law firm Arnold & Itkin represents him.
Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, is assigned to the case.
