Asbestos suit faults DuPont for man’s lung cancer

Brown darren new

Area resident Ann Skelton, surviving spouse of Robert Skelton, is suing E.I. DuPont De Nemours, alleging the company exposed her late husband to asbestos throughout his career.

The suit was filed Feb. 27 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, DuPont employed Robert at its Beaumont Works facility, where he was exposed to asbestos containing products.

The suit alleges that as a result, he developed lung cancer, “from which he died a painful and terrible death on February 6, 2013.”

No dates of employment are given.

The defendant is accused of using benzene products without warning workers of the health risks and failing to take proper safety precautions.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant acted with malice, entitling her to exemplary damages.

Beaumont attorney Darren Brown of the Provost Umphrey law firm represents her.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 6oth District Court, is assigned to the case.

Case No. B194-015
