Driver sued following rear-end collision

A Jefferson County woman claims she sustained injuries after a driver rear-ended her vehicle.

Nataly Hernandez filed a lawsuit Feb. 27 in Jefferson County District Court against Lionel Donald Jr.

In her complaint, Hernandez alleges she was driving northwest on Highway 69 on Feb. 23 when the vehicle in front of her slowed down. In turn, Hernandez slowed her car. Suddenly, Donald struck the back of Hernandez’s vehicle, according to the complaint.

Because of the collision, Hernandez incurred medical costs, experienced physical pain and suffering, endured physical impairment and mental anguish and incurred property damages, the suit states.

Hernandez blames Donald for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep a safe distance between his vehicle and hers, drove too fast and failed to timely apply his brakes, the complaint says.

In her complaint, Hernandez seeks damages within the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County Disrict Court, plus pre-judgment interest at the maximum rate allowed by law, post-judgment interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Chris M. Portner and J. Trenton Bond of Portner and Bond in Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court.
