Driver blamed for causing collision while attempting to turn

Two Beaumont residents claim they suffered injuries when a turning vehicle struck the automobile in which they were riding.

Stephanie E. Francois and Shunnette D. Jordan filed a lawsuit Feb. 28 in Jefferson County District Court against Jamie L. Fountain.

In their complaint, the plaintiffs allege they rode west on Calder Avenue on Aug. 24 when Fountain attempted to turn in front of their vehicle, causing a collision.

Because of the accident, the plaintiffs incurred medical costs, experienced physical pain and suffering, endured physical impairment and mental anguish and lost wages, according to the complaint. In addition, they suffered disfigurement and incurred property damages, the suit states.

They blame Fountain for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to control her speed, drove too fast, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep a safe distance between her vehicle and others, failed to stop or swerve to avoid a collision, failed to timely apply her brakes, failed to observe traffic signals and drove carelessly.

In their complaint, the plaintiffs seek actual damages, plus pre- and post-judgment interest at the highest legal interest rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Ryan C. Scott of The Scott Law Firm in Beaumont will be representing them.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
