While shopping at the Petco in Beaumont nearly two years ago, Gloria Robinette claims she slipped in a puddle of dog urine.
On April 22 Robinette, seeking more than $1 million in damages, filed suit against Petco Animal Supplies Stores in Jefferson County District Court, alleging the company failed to warn her of the dangerous condition.
According to the lawsuit, on June 11, 2011, Robinette was shopping at the Petco off Dowlen Road “when she slipped in dog urine, causing her to fall.”
Petco allows pet owners to bring their leashed animals inside while shopping.
“Plaintiff would show that the defendant owed a duty to the general public … to use ordinary care, including to protect and safeguard plaintiff from unreasonably dangerous conditions on the premises or warn of their existence,” the suit states.
The suit further accuses Petco of negligently failing to inspect and maintain its premises.
Robinette is also suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages.
Beaumont attorney Jonathan Juhan represents her.
Judge Gary Sanderson, 6oth District Court, is assigned to the case.
