GALVESTON - A La Marque man who was sued earlier this month for allegedly causing a wreck which sent a woman into a wall is facing another lawsuit.
Arcenio Medrano-Escobar, who Ceava D. Laster blames for the July 2012 accident in court papers filed May 1, is also the target of litigation launched May 15 in Galveston County District Court by Laster's godfather, John Reese.
Reese alleges that he owned the vehicle which Laster operated at the time of the incident in question.
Laster and Medrano-Escobar were traveling in the 2600 block of FM 1765 when the defendant attempted to change lanes in an unsafe manner and swerved into Laster’s lane.
Like his goddaugther claimed, Reese states that the impact made Laster leave the roadway, collide with a pillar and sustain bodily injuries.
Authorities cited Medrano-Escobar for having open containers in his vehicle along with making an unsafe lane change, the original petition says.
It adds that Reese's vehicle was totaled and worth more than $15,000 as of July 3, 2012, asserting the defendant failed to pay Reese back for the purported damages.
Consequently, the plaintiff seeks restitution not to exceed more than $150,000 and a jury trial.
He is represented by attorney George Edwards III of Phillips Akers Womac in Houston.
Galveston County 212th District Court Judge Susan Criss is presiding over the case.
