La Marque woman non-suits motorist who sent her into wall

GALVESTON - A La Marque woman's lawsuit arising from a July 2012 accident that sent her into a wall has come to a close, recent court records show.

Ceava D. Laster non-suited Arsenio Oswaldo Medrano-Escobar, also of La Marque, on June 25, just more than a month after suing him.

The suit showed that both parties were traveling in the 2600 block of FM 1765 in La Marque prior to the subject accident, stating Medrano-Escobar tried to change lanes in an unsafe manner and swerved into Laster’s lane.

“In an attempt to avoid the collision, the plaintiff took evasive action, causing her to leave the roadway, strike a cinder block wall and a cement pillar, and come to rest in a public parking lot,” the original petition said.

“The impact of the collision damaged plaintiff Ceava D. Laster’s vehicle and inflicted injury upon Ceava D. Laster.”

Medrano-Escobar formally denied responsibility for the wreck in an original answer submitted June 24.

He currently faces a lawsuit from John Reese, Laster's godfather, who claims that he owned the vehicle which Laster operated at the time of the collision.
