Jasper County residents Sonya and David Moore are suing Super 8 Worldwide for injuries Sonya received when she fell down a poorly lit stairway at a Louisiana Super 8 Motel.

The suit was filed July 3 in Jefferson County District Court and also names H.L.&H. Holding Co. and Wyndham Hotel Group as residents.

The suit does not give a specific reason as to why jurisdiction and venue are proper in Jefferson County, since the incident occurred out of state and the Moores do not live within the county.

According to the lawsuit, on Jan. 24 the couple were guests at Super 8 Motel in Alexandria, La.

“Due to a lack of adequate lighting, plaintiff, Sonya Moore, fell down a flight of stairs,” the suit states, adding that the incident occurred to the defendants’ alleged negligence.

Sonya is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages.

David is seeking loss of consortium damages.

Beaumont attorney Paul Ferguson Jr. of Provost Umphrey represents them.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, is assigned to the case.

Case No. E194-500
