Following surgery at Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas, Miriam Borque claims she awoke to find a nurse pushing a tube through her nose and down her throat.
Alleging the incident caused her to suffer mental anguish and damage to her vocal cords, Borque filed suit against the medical provider on Aug. 21 in Jefferson County District Court.
According to the lawsuit, on July 26, 2012, Borque underwent a surgical procedure at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont.
“Upon waking … she was horrified to experience one nurse holding her down, while another nurse forcefully attempted to push and pull some type of tube through her nose and down her throat,” the suit claims. She also alleges that her screams of pain did not stop the nurses.
Borque alleges she coughed up blood, suffered trauma to her esophagus and permanent damage to her vocal cords, according to the suit.
The suit alleges the nurses breached the standard of care.
The plaintiff is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment and disfigurement.
Houston attorney Craig Lewis represents her.
Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court, is assigned to the case.
