MARSHALL - A Dallas company is being sued for violating the Family and Medical Leave Act for allegedly terminating an employee while she was on medical leave.
Nanette Richards filed suit against Management & Training Corp. on Aug. 31 in the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division.
Richards was employed by the defendant from Oct. 19, 2009, to April 29, 2013. According to the lawsuit, Richards was placed on medical leave on March 28, 2013, and was terminated on April 29, 2013, according to the lawsuit.
The defendant is accused of violating the Family and Medical Leave Act for allegedly terminating Richards while she was on medical leave.
Management & Training Corp. is also accused of discriminating against Richards because of her race, African-American.
The plaintiff is seeking an award of compensatory damages for lost wages, back pay, emotional pain and suffering, inconvenience, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, liquidated damages, punitive damages, court costs and attorney’s fees.
Richards is represented by Tyler attorney Bob Whitehurst. A jury trial is requested.
