A Beaumont woman claims she experienced physical pain and suffering after a driver collided with her vehicle.
Natascha Bertrand filed a lawsuit Aug. 19 in Jefferson County District Court against Calvin Williford.
In her complaint, Bertrand alleges she was riding in a vehicle traveling north on Highway 69 service road in Beaumont on May 7, 2012, while Williford was driving in the same direction.
“The defendant, Calvin Williford, was in the left turn only lane when he attempted to go straight and collided with plaintiff’s vehicle resulting in the injuries and damages complained of herein,” the suit states.
Because of the collision, in addition to her physical pain and suffering, Bertrand experienced mental anguish and lost her earning capacity, the complaint says. She also claims she suffered physical impairment and incurred medical costs.
Bertrand blames Williford for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to timely apply his brakes, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to drive in a safe manner, failed to maintain control of his vehicle, failed to keep a safe distance, failed to take evasive action to avoid a collision and drove in a straight line when he was in a turn only lane.
In her complaint, Bertrand seeks an unspecified judgment, plus interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.
Tom Oxford of Waldman Smallwood in Beaumont will be representing her.
Judge Gary Sanderson, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
