Collision between SUVs yields lawsuit

GALVESTON - An October 2011 accident between sport utility vehicles has yielded a lawsuit, recent court documents say.

Area resident Jesse Gonzales brought the suit Sept. 6 in Galveston County District Court against Galveston local Erica Light over the Oct. 11, 2011, wreck in question.

According to Gonzales, Light ignored a stop sign at the intersection of Avenue U and 41st Street in Galveston and crashed her 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee into his 1996 Isuzu Rodeo.

Gonzales was traveling east in the 4100 block of U at the time of the subject event.

He adds that the defendant struck the driver's side of his Rodeo and left him with painful, severe and permanent injuries.

Light is faulted for:

  • Failing to keep a safe distance;

  • Failing to maintain a proper lookout;

  • Failing to stop or take evasive action to avoid the collision;

  • Running a stop sign; and

  • Failing to yield the right-of-way.

Consequently, the plaintiff seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

Attorney Russell G. Burwell III of Burwell Nebout in Texas City is representing the complainant, and Galveston County 56th District Court Judge Lonnie Cox is presiding over the litigation.

Case No. 13-CV-1166
