Petition seeks man’s benzene exposure history at Texaco gas station

Hyde keith new1

Hardin County resident Mary Johnson has filed a petition to perpetuate the testimony of Corky Johnson, who allegedly suffers from a blood disorder.

Through Provost Umphrey attorney Keith Hyde, the petition was filed Sept. 10 in Jefferson County District Court. The anticipated defendants in the pending suit are the Texaco and Chevron USA.

According to the petition, Corky Johnson was diagnosed with polycythemia vera, which “is expected to progress” and prove fatal.

Polycythemia vera is a myeloproliferative blood disorder in which the bone marrow makes too many red blood cells. It may also result in the overproduction of white blood cells and platelets.

The petition does not say when he was diagnosed.

The petition seeks Corky Johnson’s testimony concerning his employment at a Texaco gas station and benzene exposure.

The petition asks the court to authorize his deposition.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, is assigned to the case.

Case No. E194-728
