SFA University sued for allegedly paying female bus drivers less than males

LUFKIN - Two shuttle bus drivers for a Nacogdoches college have filed a lawsuit against the school, claiming that they were paid less than their male counterparts.

Joann Fields and Rose Trotty filed suit against Stephen F. Austin State University on Sept. 27 in the Eastern District of Texas, Lufkin Division.

Bus drivers Fields and Trotty, both African-American females, claim they were discriminated against based upon their race and gender.  The women claim that they were paid less than similarly situated non-black males with less seniority and experience. According to the lawsuit, the plaintiffs complained to their supervisor about the unequal pay, but no action was taken.

The defendant is accused of unequal pay under the Equal Pay Act.

Fields and Trotty are seeking an award of damages for mental, emotional and psychological damages,  back pay, front pay, liquidated damages, attorney’s fees and court costs.

The plaintiffs are represented by Alex A. Castetter of Stuckey, Garrigan & Castetter in Nacogdoches. A jury trial is requested.
