Plaintiff Clarence Williams, who claims he hurt his back while lifting a heavy tire, has amended his petition.
As previously reported, Williams filed suit against Goodyear Tire & Rubber in Jefferson County District Court on Feb. 1, seeking exemplary and punitive damages for the company’s alleged malicious disregard for his health.
Court records show on March 21 Williams amended his petition, further naming Wingfoot Commercial Tire Systems and John/Jane Doe as defendants.
According to the lawsuit, on July 27 Williams, an A+ Drivers employee, was contracted out to Goodyear as a driver and loader. While loading tires with another man, identified as John Doe, at a facility controlled by the defendants, Williams claims he experienced severe back pain.
The suit says the defendants knew the tires were large and heavy, but failed to provide proper equipment or assistance for loading the tires.
The suit further accuses Goodyear and Wingfoot of negligently failing supervise and train its employees.
On top of exemplary damages and punitive damages, the plaintiff is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment and lost wages.
Houston attorney Michael Pierce of Arnold & Itkin represents him.
Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, is assigned to the case.
