Host shoots guest in the arm, guest fires back with $1M lawsuit

A lawsuit seeking more than $1 million in damages has been brought after a man showing off a shotgun shoots a guest in the arm.

Harris County resident Michael Anderson filed suit against Port Arthur local Cornelius Harmon on Nov. 15 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on March 10, 2012, Anderson was at Harmon’s home as a guest. Harmon pulled out a shotgun to show to him.

“Despite being asked to put the gun away, defendant did not and pulled the trigger, shooting plaintiff in the arm and causing plaintiff serious injuries,” the suit states, adding that Harmon continued to act recklessly when he pulled out the shotgun.

The suit says the defendant acted with gross negligence, entitling the plaintiff to exemplary damages.

The plaintiff is also suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment and disfigurement, plus court costs.

Houston attorney Keith Lapeze represents him.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court, is assigned to the case.
