Teams from the Jefferson County Courthouse participated in the Relay for Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
The event was held overnight May 2-3 at the Ozen High School Stadium in Beaumont.
In the Jefferson County District Clerk's Office, employees made luminarias in honor of their longtime boss, District Clerk Lolita Ramos who died last year. Candles were lit inside the decorated bags at the relay during a special ceremony that night.
According to Elli Weathermon of the County Clerk's Office said the lights at the stadium are dimmed, making the luminaria ceremony very moving.
The County Clerk's office has had a team for five years, and have been the Top Fundraising Team for four consecutive years. She said they raised $32,000 last year, and raised around $20,000 this year.
