A contractor is facing suit after allegedly causing water damage in a home.
Judith Winston and Jan Scott filed a lawsuit Jan. 27 in the District Court of Galveston County 56th District Court against Alex Gonzalez and Creative Combinations Inc., citing negligence and violations of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practice Act.
According to the complaint, on June 11, 2012, the plaintiffs co-owned a residence at 1417 24th St. in Galveston when it was discovered water was dripping through the ceiling from an upstairs plumbing leak.
The plaintiffs state Scott called Gonzalez, the owner of Creative Combinations, to fix the leak. Gonzalez attempted to tighten the connection, causing the pipe to break and water gushed out, according to the complaint.
The plaintiffs contend Gonzalez could not find the water main cut-off and as a result water gushed out for 45 minutes until a master plumber arrived to shut off the water.
The complaint says, as a result of the water, there was damage in the upstairs bathroom, bar area, formal dining room, hallway, small pantry, wood floors, walls and ceiling.
The plaintiffs are seeking an undisclosed amount in damages.
They are being represented in the case by attorney Gerard J. Kimmitt of Legge, Farrow, Kimmitt, McGrath, & Brown LLP.
