Family seeks $1M from insurer after fatal car crash

A family is suing after a vehicle collision killed one person and injured another.

Melissa Patino-Perez, individually and as the representative of the estate of Marcelino Patino, Maria Patino-Perez and Hector Patino filed a lawsuit Feb. 10 in the Galveston County District Court against Progressive Insurance Co., et al. 

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs are seeking to recover damages as compensation for the death of Marcelino Patino and the injury of Hector Patino in a Nov. 21 vehicle collision.  The suit states the crash occurred when medical resident Nicholas Howland, underinsured by Progressive Insurance, allegedly fell asleep at the wheel.

The plaintiffs are seeking more than $1 million in damages.

They are being represented in the case by attorneys Lennon C. Wright and Keith D. Peterson.
