Jefferson County restaurant sued for not paying rent

A Jefferson County real estate company is suing a restaurant, claiming they have not received rent owed.

National Retail Properties LP filed a lawsuit Feb. 7 in the Jefferson County District Court against Kona Restaurant Group Inc. and Carino's Italian Kitchen Inc., citing breach of lease.

The plaintiff alleges in the suit they leased a property to the defendant, at 3805 Interstate 10 South in Beaumont, requiring the defendant to make monthly payments. According to the claim, the contract stated any acts of default committed by the defendant would result in legal action. The defendant discontinued payment on the loan in December, the suit states.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $500,000, attorney's fees, interest and court costs.

They are being represented in the case by Dallas attorneys Timothy Hudson and Mackenzie S. Wallace of Thompson and Knight LLP.
