Greatwide, Xtra sued over loose truck part on highway

A Louisiana man is suing after sustaining injury when a loose truck part on the highway caused his car to roll.

Doug Jones filed a lawsuit Feb. 13 in the U.S. Court for the Eastern District of Texas Marshall Division against Greatwide American Trans-Freight LLC, Robert Lee Thomas and Xtra Lease LLC, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 14, 2012, Jones was driving eastbound on Interstate 20 in Gregg County when a foreign drive shaft went underneath his car and caused it to roll, causing serious injury to the plaintiff.

According to the lawsuit, the drive shaft originated from a tractor-trailer driven by Thomas, an employee of Greatwide, either from the tractor owned by Greatwide or the trailer being towed, which is owned by Xtra Lease.

Jones is seeking more than $75,000 in damages.

He is being represented in the case by attorneys Gregory Burton and G.R. Akin.
