College of the Mainland sued by former employee

A Galveston County resident is suing over claims she was subjected to discriminatory and retaliatory conduct.

Sabrina Vincent filed a lawsuit Feb. 17 in the Galveston Division of the U.S. Court for the Southern District of Texas against College of the Mainland.

The complaint states on Feb. 27, 2012, Vincent filed an internal complaint of discrimination with the defendant claiming she was enduring a racially hostile work environment. The plaintiff states in May 2012, she requested modification of her work schedule due to a disability. She states the request was granted, but the college told Vincent her current work location would have to be moved.

On Aug. 20, 2012, and Nov. 16, 2012, the defendant issued the plaintiff correction plans, according to the complaint.

However, Vincent contends the correction plans are retaliatory and constitute disparate treatment based on race and sex.

According to the complaint, on July 12, 2013, the defendant informed the plaintiff she was terminated.

The plaintiff believes her rights under the Family and Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act and the right not to be retaliated against for filing a complaint was violated by the defendant.

Vincent is seeking a declaratory judgment against the defendant, compensatory damages, loss of wages, fees, interest and costs.

The plaintiff is being represented in the case by attorney Anthony P. Griffin of A. Griffin Lawyers.
